Straight answers
Almost always, and the rules are set by the city, not by us — size, lighting, projection and sometimes the typeface are all regulated, and Miami-Dade is stricter than most. Tell us the address early: what the permit allows decides the design, not the other way round.
Halo lighting throws a glow behind the letter and reads as the most refined, but it needs a clean wall behind it. An illuminated face is the brightest and the most visible from a distance. Backlit boxes are the most economical for a long name. The right answer depends on the wall and on how far away people see it from.
With hidden fixings and standoffs, so that nothing shows from the front. On a listed or a rented facade, where drilling is out of the question, there are mounting methods that leave no trace — tell us what the building is before we design the fixing.
