A January or February show in Chicago is not the same job as one in June. Freight is slower, marshalling yards back up, and anything that can freeze in a truck has to be considered before it is loaded.
Chicago reformed its show-floor labour rules in the early 2010s, and exhibitors gained the right to set up smaller booths themselves with their own staff and hand tools. It is the single most useful thing to know about McCormick Place, and it is still not widely known.

Chicago has a reputation for strict show-floor rules, and part of that reputation is out of date. Reforms passed in the early 2010s gave exhibitors the right to set up and dismantle smaller booths using their own full-time employees and hand tools, and to bring their own materials in a personal vehicle. As everywhere, the threshold and the detail live in the exhibitor manual of your particular show — but the old assumption that an exhibitor may touch nothing at McCormick Place has not been true for years.
